Young Tree Champions
Snowdrops class have become Tree Champions this year as we explore what that means and the impact Trees can have on our environment.
We have been very lucky and recieved 5 new trees to plant in our Forest School area from The Tree Council. We worked together to choose where to plant them, and make sure they have everything they need to grow.
Tree People!
We considered all the things that trees give to us, how they make us feel when we are playing under them, and how they might feel too. We used clay to give our trees faces depicting their emotions.
We thought that the trees would be happy, just like us to be played in. We thought that they would be sad to be cut down, and they would be annoyed at being climbed all over by insects. This prompted lots of conversations about which insects were helpful to the environment and which ones were not!
Our Survey Says We Need More Pollinators!
We conducted a survey of our forest school area and found that most of the insects in it are pests such as snails and slugs. We found lots of them! We are hoping to encourage more insects that help plants to grow, like bees!
We collected lots of natural materials and recycled some plant pots to make a bug hotel.
