People who help us in the community
This term we have been learning about people who help us in the community. Children have been exploring and taking part in activities about the community. They had explored and dressed up as a range of people who help us, including doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, teachers and many more.
Take One Picture programme
Red Kite took part in the Take One Picture programme this year that was supported by the National Gallery. As a school, each class looked at the same painting called 'A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas' by Claude-Joseph Vernet, then create a piece of learning that linked to the art piece and we had a mini Red Kite art exhibition in the hall.
Daffodils enjoyed their art creations and had proudly watched the exhibition.
We have been working on developing an understanding of numbers using numicon activities to provide children with an image to associate with each number. Daffodils enjoyed exploring numbers with different shapes and colours of the Numicon pieces having fun learning activities and playing.
We also took numbers outdoors and learned about 3D shapes.
Daffodils have been working on ways to communicate, practising communication abilities and initiating communication using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECCS) learning to exchange single pictures for items or activities they want
We have been learning strategies that target the development of Interoceptive Awareness, which is the ability to detect internal bodily sensations. This is important to make sense of what we feel, things such as hunger, fullness, itch, pain, body temperature, nausea, need for the bathroom...We had started with wet and dry and are now exploring and learning about hot and cold.
