    Red Kite Special Academy Curriculum

We aim to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum for all our pupils. Our curriculum is personalised to meet the wide range of special educational needs our pupils present with. We adapt our teaching approaches and methods to meet individual needs through personalised learning planning. We foster a safe, supportive and purposeful environment that builds positive relationships with our pupils, developing confidence and self-esteem.

We aim to prepare our pupils for everyday life, giving them the skills they need to be as independent as possible both now and in the future. Our curriculum focuses on preparing our pupils for adulthood, including further education, employment, and independent living.

Our Pathway 1 and 2 pupils in Primary and KS3, follow a thematic approach. Themes have been chosen carefully to ensure learning is as meaningful as possible. It is our intent to support our pupils in understanding and making sense of their abstract world through real life and practical experiences.

    Curriculum Implementation

    We offer three pathways

    Pathway 1 - Our Explorers (Pre-formal)

    Pathway 2 - Our Adventurers (Semi-formal)

Pathway 3 - Our Voyagers (Formal)

    Long Term Planning

Our Long Term Planning outlines what pupils will learn and when. This approach ensures that all pupils experience a broad and balanced learning journey that is both purposeful and joyous.

    Curriculum Impact

We value and celebrate the achievements of all our pupils. We measure all our pupils' progress through priority now targets (PNTs) which are linked to their Education, Health Care Plans. These targets are personalised to the individual.

In Primary and KS3 we also measure progress for our pupils through our assessment system ‘Assessment for All’. Assessment for All was developed by Fairfields Special School with a focus on measuring what we value. It reflects our curriculum which is the core from which our learning and development of our pupils begins.
